Guide to Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley for non-Japanese Visitors to and Residents of Japan

The City of Ome Publishes a Trilingual Guide to Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley for non-Japanese Visitors to and Residents of Japan

A complete guide to unspoiled nature and Japanese traditions in one of Tokyo’s best sightseeing spots – now available in English, Chinese and Korean

Mount Takao may be Tokyo’s most popular and accessible mountain, attracting crowds on weekends and during spring and fall. But with so many non-Japanese residents and travelers already having visited the mountain, more and more of them are now saying they would like a slightly more demanding climbing experience, want an overnight stay, would like to see not just mountains but more diverse scenery, or are interested in adventure-type outdoor activities.

For those who want it all, the Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley area is the perfect spot. Just an hour and a half from central Tokyo, it includes a 929-meter-high mountain, one of the oldest shrines in Japan and numerous Shukubo (accommodations for shrine visitors), a gorge through which sparkling waters flow, a variety of cultural attractions, and home-style cuisine and local sake – all the attractions that make up a great sightseeing experience can be enjoyed in a relatively compact area. Best of all, Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley represent a different facet of Japan that often goes overlooked by foreign visitors to this country.

And now, for the first time, the brochure entitled Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley has been published by the Ome City Tourism Section. Written in English, simplified Chinese and Korean, this handy guide will certainly provide an incentive to visit for non-Japanese who have heard of the area but have never been there before.

The guide is hald-A4 size and contains 12 full-color pages, making it easy to use either at home or on the go. It contains plenty of photos describing the features and attractive spots of Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley and the outdoor activities enjoyable there.

In the center of the guide is a map drawn to scale that gives visitors accurate information about the area’s topography, directions and distances, laid out clearly and legibly to ensure safe travel.

The City of Ome is distributing this guide to foreign residents of Tokyo and its vicinity through approximately 230 related organizations. The guide is intended to inform about and promote the unique features of Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley to attract non-Japanese visitors to the area.

The Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley brochure can be requested by phone from the Ome City Tourism Section (phone 0428-22-1111) or obtained at the Tokyo Tourist Information Center on the 1st floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and other locations.

Thanks to the guide, the number of non-Japanese people visiting Mount Mitake and the Mitake Valley is sure to grow.
