Japanese-English Language Help

Japanese-English Bilingual Dictionary of Legal Terms

The Ministry of Justice provides a foreign language translation database on Japanese laws and regulations, so far available in Japanese and English on their website.

When writing/translating law-related articles, including even a casual blog, it should be better to use officially specified words and phrases. But the problem is that it often comes out too much trouble to search for proper expressions one by one, being time-consuming. And now, I found a helpful website by the Ministry of Justice that has a database of Japanese laws and regulations compiled in Japanese and English languages.

Cited from the website:
Japanese Law Translation is a website operated by the Ministry of Justice that provides translations of Japanese laws and regulations.

Although it says this website is just for reference as the translations are not official texts, it still can suggest proper words used in Japanese laws. Thankfully, the website has several useful functions, allowing us to reach adequate words and phrases quickly. For example, when I was writing a blog the other day, I used one of the search functions to look up "Neteitouken" and quickly found the right words, "revolving mortgage."

The website is also useful to look up Japanese laws in English. Even if they are not official texts, and you need to keep in mind that the laws described there might be revised, the website helps us learn basic Japanese laws in English.
